Quilling, also known
as paper filigree is the art of rolling narrow strips of paper and then
shaping them to make the most exquisite designs. Projects can range from
simple gift tags and cards to
pictures, 3-D models or the decoration of boxes.
Proposed
FESTIVAL of QUILLING venue |
The Guild, formed in 1983, aims to promote the art
of quilling and the knowledge of quill work.
You don't have to be an expert to join the Quilling Guild - most of our members
are simply people who are enthusiastic about quilling.
They come from all walks of life and ages have ranged from seven years to eighty
plus. If you are a UK Income Tax payer and have not yet completed a GIFT
AID FORM, please contact Peter
Herring.
The Guild holds, annually, a Display of
Quilling and a Shared Ideas Day in the UK (see link above for information) and
organises a Festival of Quilling, approximately every five years.
We are planning the next Festival, to take place in 2013, as the Olympic Games is a big event for this year. We hope the venue will be
easily accessible from an international airport,
and by road and rail, have a good choice of accommodation, be in an interesting
place to visit, in a building to suit our needs for the occasion
- much the plan of the Olympic Games Committee, probably.
One venue which lends itself perfectly is in
Liverpool, a city which has a lot to offer, both for visitors to the area, and
also as an excellent place for our FESTIVAL of
QUILLING.
For more information, watch this space and our magazine, Quillers
Today.
Regional Representatives of the Guild also arrange
meetings and workshops throughout the year, to which anyone interested in
quilling is welcome to come. Just contact the organiser.
If you would like to learn to quill and need more information, please write to
the Secretary or the Regional Reps' Liaison Officer, or the Enquiries Officer,
all listed on the Committee
page. Membership of the Quilling Guild enitles
you to receive three copies a year of 'Quillers
Today', our colour magazine with news, views, information, pictures and
patterns.
Wherever you are in the world, you can watch your letter box in the spring,
summer and autumn for the welcome envelope with your own copy.
Each year, the Quilling Guild holds an ANNUAL DISPLAY of QUILLING,
to which all members and the General Public are welcome. At the same time
there's the Guild's annual AGM. At
each Annual Display you can see some of the finest work created during that
year. You can also see quillings by people like you
and me. You can see them among entries for competitions, from beginners to
experienced quillers, or as displays of quilling from
the regions around the UK and from overseas. See our AGM page for news of our
next Display of Work and AGM.
On the day after the Display of Quilling, we meet in a local venue for a
'Shared Ideas Day', when quillers get together to see
what others do, bring some things they've been quilling and chat to each other
about their interests or exchange techniques.
